Retirement Plan
The AC Transit Employees’ Retirement Plan is a Defined Benefit plan for the employees of the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District.
The Retirement Plan provides a monthly benefit after retirement for all Vested participants.
Vesting means having a right to receive retirement benefits that cannot be taken away.
Vesting happens after a set number of Years of Service (as defined in the Retirement Plan – this is not equal to years of employment).
The amount of the monthly retirement benefit is determined by a formula, outlined in the Retirement Plan.
The formula has three components: Years of Service, Age Factor, and applicable Pensionable Compensation.
How each component is evaluated depends on the version of the plan applicable to the Participant, on the type of retirement, and on the representation of the Participant during employment.
